Granted, he was better then most champions and if I'm going to have them dick around I'd rather him be the example since he's not really as obtrusive and shoehorned, but this whole 'champion runs around the region and helps out the player' thing seems just stupid to me.
Blue is sort of acceptable because he's your rival and Steven does it sort of well, but the others are just kind of there for no reason. It makes me think literally no one is going for the champion but the player and it's all one big rigged thing like the Truman Show instead of several trainers trying to be the best.
