Guide for those late to the party

1. Get a fishing rod.
2. Go fish in front of a sparkly water patch by rocks. (like in Op's picture)
3. (Optional) Get a Pokémon with suction cups to keep chain from breaking.
4. DON'T MOVE
5. Catch shiny after 1-100 fish attempts.

Pretty cool. Going to make it my mission to get all the ocean pokemon as shinies.

On that note, my Dragalge is Calm with good Defense IVs. Will trade for a Clauncher or Clawitzer with a Special Attack boosting nature.

The Alomomola I got from just outside the Mega Evolution Tower - just to the left of the entrance is a nice tile of water surrounded by rocks on three sides. Was pleasantly surprised since it showed up pretty quick.

The Dragalge and Relicanth were both from the space in OP's image, below Ambrette town.

Had a fainted Inkay with Suction Cups as my lead, of course.

This doesn't mean anything. The only thing that matters is whether there is something next to the space your fishing bob is in. The sparkly things are just a visual effect.

Actually it's rash, not Mild, woops. Either way, i'm quite jealous.

It's not ideal, but it boosts his Special Attack which is his best stat and he's got enough Special Defense to take the hit.

It varies. Alomomola took me a short amount of time, the other two took me much longer.

I'm pretty convinced that the tiles surrounded by rocks on three sides are the best, so consider them, so if you want to practice try the spot just to the left of the Tower of Mastery. You'll know it when you see it.

That was near the last cave entrance in VIctory Road, surfing and fishing in the little alcove that's surrounded by three sides.

Lost my chain of 80 by being too slow, went to a new location, got to 8, accidently moved, so I moved to the original location in ambrette and caught a shiny clauncher on my first go. Which either means that spot has a high shiny rate or chains are not broken by movement.

The sparkling water doesn't mean anything. Just keep fishing anywhere without failing to reel or getting the 'not even a nibble' text box. Go near rocks or get Suction Cups for a better chance at reeling in anything.

This whole thing is bullshit.

In truth, it's just easy to chain really common Pokemon when fishing. I tested this for myself by going to the exact spots discussed here (mainly where the rock formations are), WITH Suction Cups, and I could only chain common Pokemon. If I came across something that was more uncommon, like Dragalge, the chain would eventually go back to the common Pokemon EVEN if I didn't move at all, and I was still at the rock formations. I tried this out at various rock formations, too.

I was successful at obtaining a shiny (and have in fact acquired many) but could only do so with the common ones. Every attempt at chaining an uncommon one has been unsuccessful even when I follow the steps to a tee.

Also, I was able to successfully chain commoners without being at a rock formation. Take this as you will.

All you have to do is fish consecutively, this is what increases your shiny chances.

However you can fail to fish anything and there are two ways to fix this:
1.) Fish near a rock, not 100%
2.) Get an Octillery, this 100% as far as I'm aware

Anyone want to test this with Horde's? They should have the same mechanics given that you don't need to move and sweet scent never fails (meaning no need for Octillery and can put a synchro with smokeball as lead to get good natures).

So the only real mechanic to this fishing method is the rock/corner/edge of map thing, and not moving I guess, since Octillery is used only to guarantee a bite for every cast to keep the chain going.

I'll try to test after catching one more water shiny.
