What's your thoughts on an Aegislash build?

Currently have:

Adamant

King's Shield
Sacred Sword
Shadow Sneak
Swords Dance

252 Atk/ 252 Spd. 6 Hp.

Don't think adamant is the best nature. Considering Careful or Impish and doing 252 Hp/252 Def/Sp. Def 6 Atk.

Assuming the best way to go is swords dance, then attack, then kings shield?

Adamant Aegislash is getting ruined after 1 or 2 Pokémon since it's longevity isn't great. Would the increase in HP and Def/Sp Def compensate for the drop in attack?

Brave is best. Boosts Atk, and lowers Speed.
You want Aegislash moving last.
DONT run a priority move (shadow sneak), as if you dont KO the opposing Pokemon, you're taking hits with Attack form Aegi, which means you will be KO'd.
Iron Head or Sacred Sword is really down to preference.

I was considering it. Since steel is now good against Fairy it gives it a few more offensive options.

STAB brings it up to 100 power which is more than Sacred Sword.

The only problem is that Fighting is also super effective against rock and ice, as well as dark and steel.

I don't know how many truly competitive fairy types we have now so I don't know whether Iron Head > Sacred sword or not.

Brave is probably the best nature.

Is Shadow Sneak that bad? True it leaves you open to an attack if you don't KO the opponent but I thought itt could be handy if you are low on HP and need a quick finish. Wasn't that fussed about coverage but it has came in handy in a few battles so far, especially after a SD or two.

what about IV Spread? Do you think it'd be better with HP and Attack or something different?

Yeah, sorry, didn't explain that. I EV trained it before I really knew what it could do.

Got the game early, caught Honedge, EV trained it wrong.

It's done in game so far but this is why I was looking for some other opinions as it's not going to cut it soon.

Up to you.
If you are confident in predicting then stick with shadow sneak. Like you said, it can be good in a tight spot when you need a quick move to ensure the KO. Whatever you feel will work best for you, you'll only know once you try it out.

Speed is useless. Two priority attacks in Shadow Sneak and King's Shield.... and you WANT people to attack you first while you're in Aegis form then swap to attack form for a big Sacred Sword, then switch back at the start of the next turn with King's Shield.

The standard build is going to be

Shadow Sneak
King's Shield
Swords Dance
+4th move (attacking, probably Sacred Sword, but can be a STAB attack)

Change of topic but do legendaries have a min of 3 max IV stats?

Every time I caught Mewtwo he had 31 IV's in HP about 40% of the time.

Only took me about 50 tries to get a timid Mewtwo with max IVs in Speed, HP and Sp. Atk.

Yeah, didn't really think it through putting speed in when I first raised it. I think I assumed Aegislash would have high speed before we had too much info on it.

The only problem with Aegislash is that you are actually goading attacks. Since he's so slow you'll get hit each time he doesn't use a priority move. With his HP so low he won't last long without proper defences.

Brave (perhaps 0 Speed IV?)

Sacred Sword
Shadow Claw
Iron Head
King's Shield

Then you can sniff out EQs or Shadow Balls or whatever with King's Shield and wreck face.

geez, I didn't realize mega gengar and alakazam got defense boosts along with their ridiculous special sweeping stats.
Full attack investment and stealth rock damage shadow sneak only has 6% chance to OHKO mega gengar

With Swords Dance and King's Shield manipulating either Pokemon's attack power (normally), the extra boost in DEF from the nature and the 4 EVs will help make sure its still it can survive an emergency hit with its 252HP bulk.

It's difficult. definitely a 2HKO but you can't guarantee a OHKO unless you use Swords Dance.

1 SD should take care of both. with a brave nature, 252 Atk EVs and 31 Atk IVs you're roughly 95% chance of OHKO-ing Alakazam. Slightly less for Gengar.

Not sure what their Mega evolutions are like but I don't think they'll improve much in ways of defence.

I guess if it can survive a shadow ball in shield form, hit with shadow claw, then shadow sneak for 2HKO could work. now to see if it can survive mega-gengar shadowball. This strategy might also help being able to make him bulky like I wanted.

Unless Gengar has a priority move then it has to OHKO Aegislash or else it will 2HKO it.

Although if you use Shadow Sneak twice then you're asking for trouble since you'll be in attack stance for the first attack.

1 Swords Dance is 186 - 210% of OHKO-ing regular Gengar.

Again, I don't know Mega-Gengar's def and sp. def stats but I doubt they'd get buffed that much.

my defensive core last meta was ferrothorn and intimidate gyarados/salamence (could never decide). aegislash would fit the ferrothorn spot, so something to take fire attacks would be helpful. I was thinking goodra to also tank shadow balls and dark pulses, but man he has a weird movepool I don't know what to do with.

I know we don't want to raise Aegislash's speed so it can King's shield etc.

But what if you stay in King's Shield until speed is high enough to sweep.

Change to blade form and sweep everything that moves.

Also, just checked. Mega-Gengar cannot OHKO Aegislash with shadow ball while in shield form.

Shadow sneak is a good finisher and has perfect coverage with Sacred Sword.

While Iron Head will sure hit fairies hard, I don't see how it could be as useful as SS. Xerneas is going straight to Ubers and Sylveon and Flerges are the only OU contenders. I just can't see why anyone would pack one move that deals with 2 pokes effectively and gimps your coverage over one that that will 1-hit most all dark, normal, ice, steel, and rock types.

I think Aegislash will end up having a single set in OU:

There are a few flaws, but what pokemon doesn't have flaws.

I think this could work very well.

As long as you can stay in Shield form for 1 or 2 Automises then you're laughing. Won't even need King's shield.

Obvisouly Megas are at a slight disadvantage in that they can't use scarfs. Think Aegislash would be an excellent Mega-Gengar Counter, assuming you have sword's dance.

Aegislash v Blaziken is a tough one.

Blaziken can't OHKO but Aegislash has nothing that really counters it unless it mixes up its move set.

Without the speed, anything can wear you down and take you out.

Definitely Iron Head.

At the lowest speed possible, the opponent has to have 440 speed to deal the same base damage as Iron Head. Anything below that will be weaker and there are hardly any pokemon with higher speed than 440 except from Choice Scarf users.

I'd definitely try it.

Might not be the most popular Aegislash set but it could definitely catch people off guard and could potentially devastate given the right opponent.

I mean Deoxys Attack is 180/180/150.

Use Automize twice and Aegislash has 150/150/180.

Aegislash is 150/150/60 in blade form.

with 2 automizes it's 150/150/180.

Deoxys/A is 180/180/150.

Pull off 2 automizes and you're laughing.

Why would you ever want to go fast with Aegislash? If you strike after your opponent you'll still be in Shield Forme when they hit you and take way less damage, and if you ever need to go first you can just use Shadow Sneak.

Because to use Aegishield effectively you have to be attacked before each hit (except from Shadow Sneak) by building up his speed you can focus on it's immense attack without fear of being killed due to its low HP.

Shouldn't boost Attack since that will go to defense when you switch to Blade Forme. Boost HP/SpDef and Def since Shield Forme is default and all those boosts will go to Atk and SpAtk then back whenever you switch. +Def/-Speed nature is best.

An Intimidate special Salamaence can wreck him with little problem and a wrong prediction against Mega Blaziken also makes it difficult

I'm breeding Abra right now, and trying to justify using Mega when regular Alakazam gets Magic Guard, making it immune to toxic, entry hazards, and Life Orb recoil

I'll just breed a Magic Guard one and try both out and see what works better

Also, Alakazam gets Dazzling Gleam, so I think Psychic/Shadow Ball/Energy Ball/Dazzling Gleam is near perfect coverage, and of course if you're good at prediction it has Focus Blast too

pretty sure magic guard will still block hazards before it megaevolves and copies the opponent ability

not blocking life orb is irrelevant since mega can't hold the orb

Yeah, I was thinking it might be worth it to use non-Mega Alakazam, it wouldn't be as strong as Mega, but with Life Orb it could come close, and immunity to Toxic/burn/hazard damage is nice

But then again, Alakazam isn't bulky anyway
