I don't think people see the predictive potential of Protean.
With Shadow Sneak he becomes a spin blocker with one turn, or turns high jump kicks into a liability.
He gains EQ immunity with Ariel Ace or Acrobatics.
He can buff with Power Up Punch and then use Rock Slide to tank flying attacks and kill birds, or use Night Slash and gain immunity to Psychic attacks threatening him after PUP.
He doesn't have defensive stats worth crap but he can gain unthinkable levels of coverage offensively and defensively.
