"As we see here, during the middle of the Autumn season, it is mating season for the honedge species. By and large, a complicated tango with all the flash and pizzazz seen in the blockbusters of Unova.
To prepare for this season, Honedge males begin to spend more time polishing themselves than normal. They secrete a very specific oil from the inside of their sheathes, which in turn lubricates their rigid frames. When a female approaches, the male spring into action quickly sliding in and out of their sheathes and reflecting as much sunlight into the eye of their onlooker.
With luck, the female will be thoroughly blinded, and be dazzled by the gambit. If so, the two begin a spinning swords dance, first clockwise, and then counterclockwise. They repeat this process until neither one can raise their attack stat any higher. The two will charge at one another and upon contact begin the final ritual.
Upon clashing, the Honedge grip each other's tassels and begin what most Professors call "Arm Wrestling". Should the female win, the whole affair has been for naught, and she will leave the weaker male to wallow in shame. However, if the male can indeed succeed, the tassels begin to shine and the genetic material is allowed to transfer between the two.
Upon unclasping, an egg falls between the two onto the nest previously arranged by the male. The female is more likely to stay and look after the egg, but like most ghost types, neither one shall stay too attached to the area."
