Probably all of generation II
I started with Gen I, but Gen II was... Something else for me. Spent late nights when visiting family in Nova Scotia, under the blankets with a light as a soft breeze came through, trying to find out what this mysterious thing from Whirl Islands was, and trying to track down those three weird beasts that zoomed out of the basement
It helped take my mind off of my brother's death, and no game has quite caught the magical feeling that Gen II gave me, until this generation
Seriously, the mystery surrounding the games now, all the wonder and excitement at turning up something new while having all the old faces look at me and be there with me
Come to think of it, I tend to get nostalgic over the even numbered generations
