All the songs in X/Y reminded me too much of various JRPG songs which I like better. Needed that quirky pokemon character if they wanted to stand out for longer than the obligatory 10 second transitional riff. French overtones are too generic.

X and Y had some really nice music for the overworld, but godamn has it got some of the worst battle themes in the series.

I haven't played all of Y as of now, but I have to say that this generation has pretty weak music

The ones I don't like at all is team flares battle theme
Lysandres (only?) battle theme when you meet him in the lab under the cafe.
The god damn gym leader battles, they are not engaging at all and just drone on.

Also the city themes don't feel memorable at all, but that is maybe because I don't pay attention? I like to hum pokemon themes sometimes and perhaps the fact that I really can't hum violin and piano sounds make me reject them in some unconscious way.

I've actually liked Iris' and Audrey Hepburn's themes since they turn the standard on it's head for a lighter, more upbeat take on a champion theme.

Just a thought, since the OST being released in a month or so is said to have 200+ tracks maybe we'll get extended versions of the encounter themes.

Perhaps I am just being overly optimistic though. First time I heard the ace trainer one I just stood there in awe listening to it.
