You can expect about 100 new pokemon, most of which you won't be able to catch until kanto. 16 gyms, steel/dark types, breeding, new moves, a real bitch for a rival, etc.

Pretty much the same shit as Blue only with some new Pokemon and some overall improvements over the first two games.

Honestly you might as well just skip to Emerald at this point, it also runs on a phone.
