Jesus. I got XY 10 days ago and I still haven't gotten the second badge yet I've been so busy. Any other anons that can relate? I just can't find time for XY with full time work and full time school. Maybe I'll just start playing in the back of my lectures or something. Any tips for time management so I can get some time in? I'm dying here, /vp/

Our parents' generations never dressed up as their favorite childhood characters and filmed themselves for the lulz. Not only do current generations do this en masse, each individual thinks that they are brilliant and original for doing so. We live in some self-indulgent times.

Anyway, I haven't gotten the second badge yet either (I'm about to). Though free time is a factor (I work all day), it's more to me trying to catch 'em all more than anything else.

That's only because video cameras weren't widely available. People have been doing self-indulgent shit for years - look at the 20s, look at the 60s-90s, etc. We're probably in one of the less self indulgent periods of recent American history, honestly, due to economic conditions and a return of social conservatism. But really, people have always done self-indulgent stuff since the dawn of time.

Full time job and a 4yr old daughter makes it hard to get around to it, and I'm also still trying to finish Dark Souls and Borderlands 2. I only just finished Skyrim like two months ago, and I was just starting to get into Smite when X/Y came out and I had to drop it...

That's a good point - people certainly aren't encouraged to grow up and be independent like they used to be, and I've seen a lot of dependency and codependency in our generation that I don't see in the older ones, both on parents and on significant others, economically, emotionally, socially, you name it. That being said, I don't think this is the same thing as being self-indulgent, and I don't think enjoying things associated with childhood as pasttimes is necessarily the same as being childish, though it certainly can be. And anyway, back in the day, when there were no video games or cartoons, people would sit around and watch soap operas all day or be drunk all the time. Not things associated with childhood, but pretty childish nonetheless.
