I've always gotten my longest chains when listening to the in-game music. The audio is more accurate than the video by just a little bit, but it makes a HUGE difference.

I'm watching this right now but it's mostly stuff we already knew from DPPt

Route 22. There's an area surrounded by rocks/land that works. Good Rod will pull either Carvanha or Goldeen. Super rod can pull Sharpedo, but it's pretty rare and there are a shitload of Gyarados.

Catch or kill.

You can do it without the Pokeradar (at least you could in previous gens), but it's near impossible without it.

Not to mention if you get a chain going without the Pokeradar and something breaks that chain, the new Pokemon might be shiny but you'll have to restart the chain all over again.

Pretty much any of those things would break the chain. Anytime you save or leave and area, you're resetting the RNG.

Think of it this way - whether a Pokemon is shiny or not is decided by a random number generator (RNG). By doing something in a pattern, like encountering the same Pokemon over and over, you're putting the same number into the RNG, and increasing your chances of getting whatever number is needed to find a shiny.

>Example
Say you needed a value of 40 for a shiny to appear and the equation was,

2(X+Y)*Z

Where X was the number of steps between encounters, Y was the number associated with which Pokemon you run into, and Z was the number associated with that Pokemon's level.

If you had a route where:
- Tangela = 2
- Furfrou= 4
- Eevee = 8
And:
- Level 38 = 5
- Level 40 = 2
- Level 41 = 4

You could only encounter a shiny Eevee at Level 40 by taking two steps between encounters, since the only numbers that would give you 40 in that equation are 8 (Eevee), 2 (Level 40), and 2 (2 steps taken).

If 2(X+Y)*Z = 40, then shiny
If 2(2+8)*2 = 40, then shiny
If 2(10)*2 = 40, then shiny
If 4(10) = 40, then shiny
If 40 = 40, then shiny

But the real RNG also uses factors you can't control, which is why finding shinies isn't as easy as that example seems.

The Masuda method is exactly at 1/1365 chance for a shiny

Statistical probability-wise, your chance of a shiny goes up as you hatch more and more.
The formula for your chances are (1-(1364/1365)^n) x 100
n being the number of eggs hatched

So for example, at 200 eggs hatched your chance for finally getting a shiny is about 13.6%
At 400 eggs it's about 25%

And so on
