BW2 is worst protag design. RBY can't get best champion with Blue's movesets, despite his mons actually being good (Ember on Arcanine, no STAB on Rhydon). Worst rival is XY, because the majority of them were either annoying or unnecessary. Worst protagonist design would be BW2 since Nate looked like a Hilbert clone, although Mei was alright.

Also Blue and Lance are way too fucking high on that image.

Because Brendan/May give up halfway through after the sixth gym, whereas the Ralts asthmaboy gets halfway through Victory Road with a team of five. The only rivals that got further than Wally were Silver (had to beat E4 to get into Kanto), Blue (became Champion, thus beat E4), Barry (gets to postgame, thus beat E4), and maybe Cheren (do you have to beat the E4 to become a Gym Leader?).

All in all, Wally did very well for himself, especially considering he couldn't even catch his own Pokemon at the beginning. He wins most improved for sure.

Team wise, Blue, Cynthia and Steven win. There the only type less champions. Steven is a steel type specialist with only three steel types while Alder has three bug types so I count him as a bug champ. And Lance is all flying so he's more of flying type champ, Iris is a better Dragon specialist

Because her champion music showed that you don't have to have heavy music to convey energy. The last two champions have had light, high energy music that conveys an enjoyable battle more than a tense one.

IE these champions are here to enjoy what they have, not to try and simply defend some title they have.

Because brendan/may were their first steps in trying to turn the opposite gender person into a non-rival role, like they did in Pt, while wally was their first attempt at making a rival who wasn't just a bag of dicks who hated your guts.

RSE would have had best rival if they had simply had Brendan/May take a Pt alt gender role, while wally is the person you fight constantly, with him being piss easy to start, and getting progressively more challenging before eventually putting up an actual threat (and possibly getting the pokemon that brendan/may chose)

Personally, I still like Iris' theme, and I play it on repeat when I'm trying to keep a flow of energy when doing something. It doesn't tense you up, but it isn't somber and make you depressed.

I think that makes for a good battle theme overall. The rival theme in XY does similar, but has a lot of old stuff remixed in.

The problem is that you need the dickbag rival to contrast with the non-rival. R/S didn't have a dickbag rival at all, which was a huge mistake that they have yet to repeat (DPP: Barry, BW: Cheren, BW2: Hugh, XY: Serena/Calum).

Players need a dickbag competitive rival because they need motivation. When you walk into a gym in RBY and see on the statue that DICKFART already beat Lt. Surge, you're pissed. This faggot is ahead of you, I'm gonna kick his fucking ass. In GSC Silver fucking beats his Pokemon when he loses a battle and is constantly presented as "how NOT to train your Pokemons", and you want to kick his ass just for being a smug prick.

This never happens in RSE with Brendan/May. You have no reason to hate them, aside from being one-dimensional, useless, and pathetic. They're pushovers and you never feel like you're actually competing with them; the player loses their drive.

Honestly, I don't think you NEED the dickbag rival for contrast. The dickbag rival is there as an easy way to make doing things personal for you.

Also, you're incorrect in calling Barry, Cheren or Serena/Calem 'dickbags'. Barry was a high energy guy who was having fun; Cheren was distant; Hugh had his own agenda, but was dickbag; Calem/Serena were ass kissers that you feel kinda sorry for.

They also stopped having the rivals names appear before yours most of the time (you tend to be the leader).

Basically, you have no real reason to hate any rival post GSC except N if you consider him a rival, nor do rivals really fit the archetype that Blue and Silver were. They're well done for what they are, but honestly, they're the most basic archetype for a rival you can have. If any of the later rivals was done as well as them, they would have far surpassed those two.

FTFY. I mean the things he has listed are mostly opinion based and very vague.

It also misses out on a lot of things that are important to the games, including mechanics, distribution, level curve, balance, and basically everything about the gameplay; which is much more important than the design aspects (which are important)

Cynthia and Blue and maybe Steven were the only good ones, I put Alder in there because I like him as a character and he did have an integral role in BW and the sequels, despite losing embarrassingly to N and then basically handing over the Championship and letting her win out of obligation to let the next generation take over.

Diantha was seriously the worst champion ever, barely shows up in the game, you don't even get enough of her to find any personality, looks weird as fuck and had the easiest team ever. Even for fucking Pokemon, she was too easy. Her only saving grace was that her theme was awesome and to me felt like a great culmination of my adventure, but it deserved a way better champion.
