I believe Mega Evolutions are bad for many retro Pokemon because it denies them the possibility of having a real evolution that is not tied to holding a stone in battle. Mega Pinser and Scizor could have worked perfectly well as their own Pokemon, but that's not possible now thanks to mega evolutions. And they'll continue to eat away at good Pokemon families for generations to come.
