I'm not too savvy on the whole breeding thing, honestly.

But from my understanding, in order to have a chance to pass on abilities, the female needs to have it, and only then its still a chance.

When it comes to Protean with Froakie, how does Protean come into existence to begin with?
Breed till you get lucky?
Or cross breed with something else?

I want a good froakie to continue the rest of the game with, but I want to try out this protean thing and have it be modest as well.
