I don't have as many details I remember as you, but I had a copy of Diamond with Pokemon transferred from Fire Red, Emerald, and I think a few from a friend's Ruby and I lost it at a friend's house. I told him about it and he felt really bad. He wasn't able to find my game but since he hadn't been playing Pokemon much lately (getting into the Xbox 360/Halo type games unfortunately) he gave me his copy of Diamond to keep. I reset his save and started over. I still had my case and everything, so to an outside it would look as though nothing this traumatic ever happened. I had my only level 100 Pokemon on there, my beloved Articuno. I was pretty young back then and I'm sure the Pokemon were all shit, but losing my bros was hard.

A couple of weeks ago I found the messenger bag/fanny pack thing on ebay and bought it. It's the exact same model as the one I had, though it seems smaller now. That's probably just because I grew, though.

Even though it sounds really cliche, whenever I think about this, I remember what my younger self said, that Pokemon don't just live in cartridges, they live in your heart.
And in that sense, my bros, including my very first ones, are still with me.

So OP, even though you lost your games, as long as you loved them, you didn't lose your Pokemon.

I've played since before then, but I was a stupid kid and didn't fully grasp how to play Pokemon, so I didn't beat many games before that.

i was once a autistic retard and went through a phase where i sold everything nintendo related and was a giant xdrone for a year or two.
was during gen IV, so I lost a lot of shit upon returning.

Also similar feels when I got my first 3DS for my birthday and the box had been opened messy, the cardboard was torn a bit. My relatives will always open a Nintendo handheld if I'm getting it as a present so that they can make sure it's charged up or whatever. Honestly, I have no idea if they come charged up or not at this point.

I think even /vp/ hit me. When my peers try to converse with me about Pokemon, I tend to be passive aggressive because they don't know about things like STAB, IVs, EVs, friendship level, etc. Luckily I do have a few friends of friends who have been on 4chan for years like me and can handle my autism.
