Read this OP as well. Don't complain that you haven't got a shiny yet after a chain of 40, it took myself and others even 100-250+ before seeing our first shiny. You DON'T have to have Surf capabilities if you have a Suction Cup/Sticky Hold/etc type Pokemon. Rock method is for those who don't have either of the previously mentioned or just anyone superstitious. Suction Cup ensures you'll always get an encounter with the rod meaning your chain will never break, therefore meaning the rock method isn't essential. Skrelp is love. Skrelp is life.

Ok so I have a honest question. I see people saying stuff like this:>I made a step forward instead of picking my rod now my chain is ruined >I accidentally put on my rollerblades now my chain is ruined >catching the shiny stops the chain How do we know this? It's pretty clear by now that chain fishing works, but any of the above statements just seem like gambler's fallacy to me. Why would catching a pokemon stop the chain but running or killing it not? Last night I was chaining and I failed to oneshot a Dragonair and it Dragon Tail'd me, would that stop the chain? If my pokemon runs out of moves, can I give him an Ether between fights or does this stop the chain? With chance statistics like these people should always be very wary of making statements

Just traded my shit natured average IV shiny Octillery for Yveltal. GTS is getting flooded though, saw like 5 shiny Octillerys there. If you want to get a legendary or something for your failure leftover second rate shinys, you should move fast.
Anonymous
>>15061133 I'm certain catching a shiny ends the fishing chain. I counted when I started, got to 97 and caught a shiny Alomomola. At the time, I didn't think the chain ended so I kept going. Caught another shiny Alomomola after 5 tries. Figured the chain indeed doesn't break. Kept going, caught another Alomomola 50ish tries later (lost count at this point), Octillery 50ish tries later, swapped rods and caught Chinchou 40ish tries later. Went to the fisherman to see my highest chain, thinking it would be like 350 or something and it was 97.

I know OP said it was optional. Ideally I'd like to run a pokemon with the nature that I want and Synchronize in the lead. I've said this in other thread(s) but interestingly enough there is a high number of people getting a shiny mon in under 40 consecutive chains. I think that if you go over 40 you should break the chain to reset it and try again. I broke about 4 chains that were at their 20's then on my 5th chain the 10th mon was a Shiny Clauncher. That can count to 90 chains if it was consecutive, but if I didn't cut the original chains would I have gotten the mon at the 90th chain? OR resetting did give my chances a boost than waiting and waiting till it finally catches.
