How in the world are people getting perfect IV ditto? I've never seen anything from safari with more than 3.
Is it just a case of catching a bucket load and hoping?

Pretty much. There's no way to breed for Ditto. It's all Friend Safari luck.

Going rate for a perfect IV ditto is probably a good shiny

Not impossible, just distinctly unlikely.

This is the second shiny helioptile I've caught. I wonder traded the first because I was starting a new game What are the chances in that?

I also bred a shiny chespin after 8 eggs MMing. Super lucky. Last time before this gen was was a shiny weedle in Silver.

Perfect IV Ditto is rare but not required. It's just a two step breeding chain.

>catch a Ditto with 3 Perfect IVs
>catch a different Ditto with the other 3 Perfect IVs
>make Pokemon you want breed with Ditto, Ditto holds the Destiny Knot

>baby pokemon has the 3 Perfect IVs
>make baby evolve to nonbaby

>hatch dickloads of eggs
>obtain perfect IV pokemon that you actually want

Far, far faster than trying to catch a shit ton of Dittos and hoping for a 5-6 perfect IV spread.

Well yeah, that's what I've been doing.
I've made heracross and scyther this way. Working on joltik atm.

Would be nice to just have something I could stick in the day care and leave forever.

I got one ditto with 4 IVs max, but also has a 0 IV in one stat which I don't remember. I also have an outstanding Ditto with 3 max IVs. It's only a matter of good luck.
