Not next to, with the mega form it is ABOVE, it is the 7th highest base attack pokemon in the entire game, which is impressive considering Mega-Mewtwo and Mega-Heracross exist.

You can revenge kill it with EQ, sure. OP asked for a Counter though and due to Shadow Tag it doesn't really have one. A smart player could kill half of the opponents team with this thing. Dugtrio could do the same type of thing but his attack is so low. Mega Gengars special attack is fucking huge and it has a good movepool.

Most of the megas can deal with it actually. Gyarados has almost nothing to fear due to its high defenses, T-Tar can sucker punch even if it has focus blast, Mega Blaziken is arguably more broken, Mega Alakazam looks like it was practically made to be a counter, with its 150 base speed and psychic STAB. Garchomp can tank a hit and OHKO with Earthquake since it loses levitate. Scizor has priority. Mega Banette has trick room and quadruple priority.

Unless you're using something obscure like Manectric (which outspeeds anyway) as your only Mega, I'm pretty sure you can take it down 1 on 1 with any of the other megas.

Completely unneeded buff, but then I guess you could say that about most of the Mega Evolutions.

Also most Mega Gengars run Substitute, if it comes in on something that can't break the sub or even hit Gengar depending if it's stuck on a certain move Gengar can get one up and then hit Alakazam, Gyarados and Garchomp for Super Effective damage, although for the latter two it's shaky because he'd have to use Focus Blast. For the most part though yeah they can probably check Mega Gengar.

I don't really think Mega Gengar is overpowered because of his brute strength but rather because he's a stupidly easy revenge killer, the opponent can't even withdraw their pokemon and he has great type coverage.

mega gengar? sure, you probably have to sacrifice something to get him in but generic hyperoffensive murder-everything gengars probably aren't taking a priority stab gem-acrobatics and living

if it isnt at full hp talonflame is probably going to murder it, and even if you switch into a rock type or something he can carry steel wing and swords dance

STAB Shadow Ball deals the same damage than Focus Blast against Scizor. Gengar carrying Focus Blast only if you are completely scared of Tyranitar or if you don't have Fight-coverage.

Positive, especially considering Banette doesn't get Wonder Room and my own Aerodactyl doesn't have any decreased priority moves.

I recall it was mentioned in a previous thread that Exploud with Scrappy might work pretty well.

Especially since sound-based moves like Boomburst and Hyper Voice now break through subs should Gengar put one up, and being special-based, Will o' Wisp shouldn't affect it by much either.

Being immune to Gengar's primary STAB also helps.

252- Atk Gengar Sucker Punch vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Alakazam: 188-222 (74.6 - 88.09%)
That's a regular fucking Alakazam that you can't OHKO.
Mega Alakazam has 20 more base defense. Mega Gengar doesn't get any extra attack.

Sub is virtually necessary because it's the only way to avoid feeding your Mega Gengar to the enemy Tyranitar. Switching takes priority over Mega Evolving, so your opponent can switch tyranitar in on the turn you Mega Evolve, at which point there is absolutely nothing you can do except die to Pursuit (assuming the Ttar runs that new Vest item, which most will for this very reason).

Mega Gengar has a bunch of weakness, and all he got is high Speed and Sp.Atk, which most non-mega pokemon already have.
And with it losing Levitate, it now weak to Ground attacks, like Earthquake.
Really, he's a waste of a Mega Stone slot, the only thing cool thing about him is his shiny Mega....which I want so bad....and I don't know why.

Well Extreme Speed for one, Stealth Rock as well makes it almost impossible for him to use his Stabs more then once (unless he uses Acrobatics only) Aqua Jet Azumarril which will be huge, Quick Attack Mega Pinsir, but of stuff. I keep beating them with my Heliolisk. 9 times out of 10, people forget it's part normal and try to shadow ball it. Then I just Volt Switch into a dark type.

Paralyzing it almost always does it in, though.
