When Pokemon Fire Red and Leaf Green came out in 2004, I remember joking about a Ruby and Sapphire remake for the Nintendo DS. It was just such a preposterous idea at the time. Who on earth would want to revisit the waterlogged Hoenn region? Who would ever want a team of accidents like Swalot, Tropius, and Exploud? But of course, times change. The six and seven-year-olds who grew up with Ruby and Sapphire are in high school now, and now there's widespread nostalgia for Hoenn, which hasn't been seen in nearly a decade. Still, I wouldn't have said that Ruby and Sapphire remake should happen... until now. To be clear: I haven't changed my mind about some things in Ruby and Sapphire. I still think the regional Pokedex is flawed, with too much filler like Luvdisc, Pelipper, and Mightyena. The region itself requires a ton of surfing, which might be my least favorite Pokemon activity owing to the confusing terrain and the surplus of Tentacool. It lacks a true day/night cycle, which was inexplicably cut following the second generation. And the game's Elite 4 is also tremendously weak. But that's precisely why I think now is the time for a full-blown remake. The best remakes are the ones that bring the old content into the present while retaining its spirit. With a Ruby and Sapphire remake, Game Freak can address many of the issues in the original games, and in a roundabout way, improve Pokemon X and Y as well. Here are a few things that help make a Ruby and Sapphire remake worthwhile:

Nah fuck that OP we need Ruby 2 and Sapphire 2

Better story & more Kanto pokemon Brendan/May might be the worst rivals ever. In the original Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire, you don't even get the fully evolved versions of their starters before they drop out of sight. A remake would be wise to rectify that, while also giving more screen time to rookie trainer Wally, who catches his first Pokemon (a Ralts) with your help. Any remake would also be wise to combine the best elements of Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald into a cohesive whole. Keep Team Magma and Team Aqua as version exclusives, but use the epic final battle from Emerald, in which Groudon and Kyogre battle until Rayquaza appears to stop them. If there's a Pokemon "canon," then Ruby and Sapphire's events are the most open for interpretation. A remake should take advantage of that opportunity.

Really? I always thought the the pokemon league was quite difficult, compared to the other games Whismur is fucking terrible but loudred is alright Also the game did lack alot of extra content and XP after beating all the trainers was miniscule. I think another Hoen game would be nice but not necessarily a remake and with the updated XP systems and more towns it would be good.

Holy shit are people really too cheap/stupid to buy fucking repels? Most R/S/E complaints I hear are just fucking retarded and makes me wonder if people are just hating on the games because it's the hip thing to do or if they're just retarded.

Hoennfags are seriously the worst posters on here, worse than genwunners by a mile considering that Gen 3 was by far the worst of all the gens and all it has going for it is the nostalgia all the people who started playing Pokemon in that gen have for it. At least Gen 1 were actually good games so the nostalgia for them is understandable. Wanting remakes of Hoenn because it was babbies first Pokemon game is just garbage.

A times B times C equals X... If X is less than the cost of a remake, we don't do one.

I love Hoenn and all but I think it would be better for a sequel to it like others are saying. I played the shit out of that game and it still hasn't left my bloodstream, replaying it would be like watching your favorite movie where u know every line about to be said. I've kept blue and the Hoenn region games and the game boys for them, so something more fresh would be more satisfying. Yellow version was chewed up from an encounter from my dog, but as long as I still got blue then I can indulge in nostalgia anytime I want.

>>15116317 Well, sequels don't have to be that different to the originals. They'd have to update to 3D anyway, and what's a couple of extra routes and minor changes in the grand scheme of things.
