Dashing in skates is as fast as the Bike, however...
Roller Skates are better for getting around quickly and fluidly since they don't have to be equiped.

However, the bike is better for long-distance traveling because it retains top speed though grass, and without constant user input.

Skates are fun though. Dat swiveling, those pirouettes. Fluid movement through the use of analog stick.

I still prefer running and bike because diagonal movement turns out to be more of a pain than I'd thought.

Not saying that skates are the only thing that has fluid movement. Even walking has fluid movement. Just saying that I enjoy the animation of skating in circles.

No, but considering you are using the breaks, and how the bikes respond, it does look like they are really good.

Besides, who cares if it follows physics or not if that doesn't suit your opinion of physics? It's generally all around better.

you dont get it. using the bike or skates takes you off the grid so you can go the same distance while touching more tiles. you can move on skates without even going to a new tile.
the question is, how are steps counted when you're using these devices?

The skates are the most awkward shit ever. The only times I use them are for the grind rails and in Lumiose (because trying to walk normally is impossible, since pressing left/right shifts the camera instead of making you move).

the bike DOES take you off the movement grid, whether you're using the analog stick or the d-pad.
you can easily test this by getting off your bike after using it, the character will snap to the nearest tile.
then get back on the bike, you won't snap to where you were before

The skates can go just as fast as the bike, but it's a little harder. If you do the running start trick and then immediately start the parallel swizzle you don't lose any speed.

Skates took me a while to get used to but now I love them and would hate to not see them return.
