So yesterday I remember reading a thread with a bunch of people bickering about the BSTs for Mega Evolutions and whether they resembled Forme changes more or traditional evolutions. Can someone elaborate on this? I don't own X/Y yet, but on average, just how high have the stats for Mega Evos increased?

Every Mega gets 100 points added to their stats. So Garchomp ends up with 700 BST instead of 600, Mewtwo goes up to 780 and so on.

Some megas get even more thanks to new abilities, like Mawile
Her base BST was 380 though so it's justified

Im actually curious about Megas stat spreads.
Like I want to know when is an appropriate time to use Megas and when Im better off staying normal. I can never tell if it affects my strength or defense.

Mega Evolutions get 100 stat points added to their BST.

Formes typically get 0 points added (some of their stats will go up while others will go down, but the BST itself usually remains stagnant), although there are some exceptions. I can't recall any of the exceptions getting as much as 100 stat points though.

Mega Evolutions are clearly more similar to traditional evolutions in this respect, and whoever compared them to Forme changes was probably that same dumbass from the thread yesterday that was trying to say that Mega Evolutions are mechanically like Formes and that they have nothing in common with evolutions. He's a retard, ignore him whenever he posts on the subject.

I'd only imagine delaying a Mega Evolution to keep the base form's ability, since abilities also often change when they Mega Evolve. Like keeping Scrappy from base-Kangaskhan to KO a Ghost-type, and then Mega Evolving afterwards to go ham.

I believe Garchomp and Ampharos are the only ones that get their speed reduced slightly when they Mega Evolve, but they gain so much more out of it.

Dump into HP/SpA and it may go somewhere, just not far. It has Dragon, which is bad and has a less-than-preferable movepool.

Yeah, not sure why he was so insistent on that. Mega stats definitely resemble evolutions more.
