Thanks to PSS, no more Union Rooms or having to trudge to the nearest center to interact with friends.
Also Pokemon Amie and it's effects in battle.
But still, I find Gen II to be most innovative. Also, the Pokegear. For some reason I really enjoyed getting to call other trainers, and I like how that expanded to gym leaders in the remakes.
I had Morty on booty call I did like the WiFi in Gen IV, but personally I didn't have home internet then, so I didn't get to use it much. Plus all of the movement in D/P/Pt seemed...really slow.
