Can somebody explain breeding with Destiny Knot to me?

Does it take 5 random IVs from both parents or only from one?

Does that mean it's impossible to have 5 perfect IVs if both parents only have 4?

5 random from both parents. You just gotta keep chain breeding and leave that 6th stat to luck.

It's 5 random from both parents.
It's not impossible if both have 4.

A has 31/31/31/31/x/x
B has 31/x/x/31/31/31/x

If you're lucky, Destiny knot might pick HP(A), ATK(A), DEF,(A), SPATK(A), SPDEF(B)
Which would give 5 perfects and then speed is random.

5 random IVs from both parents.

Well if you're lucky, you can still get 5 perfect IVs but only a maximum of 4 can be inherited from the parents.

You'll need to chain breed.

By the way, if you use a power item and a destiny knot, you get the the chosen stat and 4 other inherited stats from either parent.
Of course, you can't pass down natures this way.

I'm pretty sure I've hatched over 60 Mawiles and not one has 5 perfect IVs
