I collect vintage games and game memorabilia. My collection dates all the way back to the early 1980's. I plan on continuing my hobby for the foreseeable future.
In 'x' amount of years once the eShop has been taken down and the patch removed, there will be no way of fixing a game-breaking glitch. I'm not thinking in terms of months or years. I'm thinking in terms of decades. That's why I prefer any sort of game-breaking glitch is patched onto the hardware instead of just an SD card.
I understand if you don't get it, but that's my logic as a collector.
