90% of the fun in "competitive" Pokemon play is making teams and then playing on simulators, where clauses are enforced so that there's less frustrating shit.
It's just a shame that once again the Battle Tower thing in the game doesn't have co-op over Wi-Fi. That's more fun than playing against randoms whose sole purpose in life is to be annoying pricks and 12 year olds who use every legendary Pokemon in existence.
And if you think we've seen the worse of it, imagine how much worse it'll be come Poke Bank's release. :|
