Something about aggron popping out of the pokeball and landing on the ground just looks amazing to me.Actually all the heavyweight pokemon look cool when they come out of their pokeballs.

also, I know the game can't reasonably draw fights to scale (dat Joltik v Wailord) but am I the only one bummed that the dex didn't?

We've finally got fully scaleable models, it wouldn't have taken any time to add a compare function that put two mons side-by-side or one side-by-side with the full-size trainer model

Instead we have full glorious 3D and I still have to guess at sizes using that single measurement in the dex with unclear meaning (height? Length? Wingspan?)

I hated Drudiggon in Gen V, because he looked like a stupid scribble.

IMO he translated GREAT to 3D, a sense of depth helps make sense of all the damn triangles, I no longer hate his design.

Tiny mons get scaled up (Joltik) but the cel shading is such that they STILL look like a tiny smudge of black pixels half the time

I still wish there was at least an option for drawing battles to scale

with visible trainers behind them. Pokemon has never really captured the sense of battling monsters for me because the sizes are so tough to make out

So? Most all physical moves do. Certainly EVERY contact move does; you just stand there, move, and then a symbol appears on the other side of the screen. And Magnezone levitates but Earthquake hits it, and THAT looks silly too.

So it isn't perfect yet. With time, they could make flying mons leap up to avoid ground attacks, and all sorts of stuff.

Looked like shit since GSC, in both 2D and 3D.
Only ever looked decent in HGSS and BW2.
Then I encountered it for the first time in XY.

Now I think it looks like an awesomely cool and adorable little penguin. Probably one of my favorite mons now. Its colorscheme (among other things) was really saved by these game. Actually looking into training one now. Shame it's competitive prospects don't look so great apparently.

Eelektross this gen feels like something of an in-joke; all of the fish-mon "swim" in air, this one ACTUALLY FLOATS and isn't even water type.

If its line was introduced this gen I'd be 100% certain that they were taking a subtle stab at themselves with that, with the knowledge that whatever future tropes they rolled out for water-types would still result in a cool airswimming fish.

No idea what they were thinking in Gen V, though.

BTW, did anyone ever figure out what triggers the underwater battle arenas? I never did see one.

Even in the game it is hard to use. Trust me, I've tried several times. I fucking loved it when I saw it in a magazine back when G/S was coming out. Delibird, Murkrow, and Tyranitar caught my eye. Boy was I disappointed when I actually got to play. Tyranitar was absolute end game, Murkrow was after the E4, and Delibird was rubbish.

Funny coincidence though, Spinda is another Pokemon I was looking forward to using when R/S was coming out, only to be disappointed again. Ran into a horde of the little fuckers in X/Y and I fell in love again.

Skarmory is like that and it pisses me off.

They gave everything that takes part in flying battles a flying/floating animation so that it isn't just standing on air, but it means a bunch of shit just looks retarded because it floats a few feet of the ground.

Almost everything with wings had a "flying" and a "landed" pose. If its idle was the former, it would do the landed pose whenever you use Roost. If its idle was the latter, it would do the flying pose if you were in the sky for something like Fly. At least I believe that's how it worked.

This one is better than that, but it's still a weird angle. Same with Eelektross and Mega Gyarados, it's bad camerawork that doesn't capture the feel of the Pokemon

I'd kill for a Torkoal without smoke. I love his design but I've always hated how he is always spewing smoke and obscuring his top tier design. His 3D model doesn't really hide anything, but it looks like some sort of smoke balloon is tied to its back. It could have been done a lot better.

I'm part of the group that didn't mind the older Pokemon cries in low quality. Now that they've finally updated it after pesky reviewer after reviewer kept whining about the cries some of them don't even sound the same anymore or have been sped up with some defining parts of their cry missing, liked Cubone and Scyther.

In Maison, you can do multi-battles with a friend.

If you/they're offline, com will play them.

Their FC is tied to a unique team in-game (like friend safari), which often contains unobtainable mons

So if you Multi-Battle offline, your "team" will have mons you can't catch.

I hate what they did to all the Gen 1 and Gen 2 cries, the 8 bit cries are superior.

I really hated Gen 4 and Gen 5 cries for being generic and non-memorable electronic/distortion sounds. There are only a few exceptions.

Gen 3 was weird. Some memorable ones, some bad ones.

I've seen Cofagrigus' model in the Battle Maison and it is fucking gorgeous. GF did a really good job of making his arms and hands look like actual shadows. Makes me wish there was more access to ghost types in-game.

I've seen them, Emboar isn't particularly anything special(looks more like Pignite if anything) but Samurott looks really good and its attacking animation is him pulling out the shell blades on his forelegs.
