Hello! Newbie here. I just got a 3DS XL with pokemon X and just started my first run. I got into the first forest and the third encounter is a Scatterbug throwing around stars, it's also white. I've never encountered a shiny and I only had like 3 encounters the whole game, so I just catched it in a premiere ball to be sure. When I go into summary it has a small red star near to it.

So is it a shiny?

thats not the point, if you want to trade your legendary away trade it for a shiny of value. I saw a Weepingbell on last night for an Xerneas, that would be worth it. I saw literally 3-5 Shiny Claunchers next to each other in the GTS...3 times in a row. Thats how valuable it is.

I thought moving didn't affect the fishing chain? or at the very least when I was testing out diffrent rods in diffrent areas without missing a chain I eventualy got a random shiny alomomola, so I assumed stuff like moving and swithcing rods doesn't affect the chain, just making sure you don't fail the fishing prompt.
Either that or I was pretty lucky

Get a cheap plane ticket across the globe, shouldn't cost more than a few hundred pounds.

Next you are going to want to hang around shopping centers and other localised places that familys will go to (such as parks or a beach).

I suggest finding the kid alone as approching them when an adult is there can be risky buisness. Find a kid with a 3DS and ask if they like pokemon. Get to chatting (you have learnt enough lingo to get by by this point) and offer to trade for his favourite pokemon.

Trade him your "rare foreign bunnelby" and promise it can unlock a room in the pokemon center to find a free mew.

Fly back (maybe) and you are done, wack that sucker into the day care and you are good to go.

I gave up on Zorua at 27 boxes, and started with Tropius shorty after, I'm at 18 (almost 19 now) boxes of Tropius. The thing I hate the most is that I'm pretty much only in it for the shininess(the parents have decent IV's etc. but I'm not too fussed if it ends up shitty) HOWEVER, those here who are after not only shiny, but shiny + perfect IV's gender and nature get shinies which are not perfect within a couple boxes, and here I am 45 boxes later looking for a shiny that could have a severe mental deficiency and I'd still be happy with it.
