The only poke games I've played are Firered, Soulsilver and now I'm currently playing Y. I want to play the gens inbetween, but have a few questions:
1) Why does everyone say gen IV is terrible? Should I just get Platinum (which I've heard improves on Diamond/Pearl)?

2)Would I have to play through Black/White to fully enjoy B2/W2? I do enjoy the game's story, inb4 hate

3) Should I bother ebaying or whatever to get R/S/E?

Gen 4 is the worst because the Pokedex is 100% trash.

D/P had a fair few flaws (pretty poor Pokemon choices pre-E4, slow surfing speed, etc.). Platinum improves on it vastly so I'd recommend it.

It makes more sense for you to play B/W before B2/W2, since the latter is a sequel to the former and picks up where B/W left off.

Don't bother with R/S and just play Emerald, it's the far superior version. And most of the games on ebay are fake, so you're better off just emulating them (most computers should even be able to emulate DS games as well).

Will an emulator slow down my computer?

Is the pokedex really the only major flaw with D/P? I don't get how that makes sense, cndsidered it's always called trash.

Because they only look at D/P and HG/SS. Platinum was a fantastic game, but maybe a little dated to be starting now.

Probably not. There's not much of a story to be had.

Slow surf speeds, huge saving times, slow battle and usage speeds (Pokemon animations taking upwards of 5-10 seconds have to finish before your health can even start going down, and then at that point it's scaled to your health, so a blissey getting OHKO'd takes almost a full minute to OHKO. Works in reverse too, so using softboiled on it makes an entire turn take a minute and a half)
If you don't choose infernape, your only fire type the entire game until you beat the Elite 4 is Ponyta
Plot makes absolutely no sense when they shoehorn in Dialga and Palkia instead of Giratina, Cyrus basically has no motive and no reason to exist, the rest of galactic remains just as confused as you are.
Like 5 or 6 species only available by the retarded as fuck Honey Tree system.
Then Pal Park makes it so you can only transfer a total of 6 Pokemon once every 24 hours, so if you had some bros from Gen 3, you're not gonna see most of them for a while. That resets so you can't get any new Pal Park for 48 hours if you accidentally switch DSes or set the time off.

Overall it was just really not good.

Gen 5 is awful because of too much focus on story and Dream World shit, I'd say skip that one.

Really Pokemon games are similar enough that I'd say there's no need to "go back" to ones you missed, though Emerald is still my favorite thanks to the Battle Frontier endgame.
