Why isn't there a metagame where every mon is assigned a point value, then your combined total of points for your team deterimines your tier?

That way, if your team is all NU mons, and you have one OU, you wouldn't be forced into OU, but in NU or RU?

A single OU pokemon can wreck an entire UU squad.

For instance, after a single dance, nothing in UU stops Salamence that isn't Weavile.

In case you didn't notice the current tiers are automated. There's bots gathering usage statistics from battle simulators and the top 50 used Pokemon are OU. It's simple and brainless and effective for OU. Other tiers get some full retard things happening in them from time to time but as far as OU is concerned it's a great barometer for what the meta is currently like.

When a Pokemon wrecks too much shit in one tier and enough people care it's manually moved somewhere.

Not entirely true.

Its all a matter of how good the players are.

I've won matches playing with an NU team against OU because the player was bad.

Good predictions and plays are just as important as the Pok?mon.

True, but if two people with equal skill levels play, Dancemence will #rek an entire UU team.

There is a setup where you play with 1 uber, 1 OU, 1 BL, 1 UU, 1 RU, and 1 NU pokemon, but that can have problems too: people send out the uber first and sweep half the other guy's team. (Some variations of this require that you start by sending out the NU first, and then the RU, and then UU, and so on.

Actually VGC did this one year, where each team could bring one Uber. Obviously the whole game revolved around what Uber you picked.

Though there WAS once talk of a similar meta that auto-scaled levels; so the mons that saw the least use would get a boost in levels and centralizing mons would get a reduction, thus causing the game to auto-balance with buffs/nerfs to stats.

If you play random on Pokemon Showdown, it kinda works like this. Anything in ubers is set to Lv. 70, while the worst of NU is at Lv. 99.

It doesn't end up mattering that much, in the end, a Lv 70 Extreme Killer Arceus has no problem disposing of a Ledyba, even if it's 29 levels higher.

Suggestion: using the usage stats for determining tiers (those who perform better than half the laddered players), set some specific percentage of usage equal to 1 mon; let's say 1/X, where X is the number of mons or fully evolved mons, and whenever a mon appears on more teams than that percentage, it gets its level nerfed by 5 levels. Mons below get their level buffed by 5.

Arceus would probably end up Level 30; Regigigas level 100. If that's what it would take to make Regi as viable as Arceus, well... Fuck it, okay.

The ONLY problem with this type of meta is that building for it is tough, because every month the viable builds changes with stats, which sucks.

But in its own way, it would be great.

Because that would be retarded considering on three other programs you can play VGC tier rules already, and it becomes the main tier to play on during the days leading up to VGC.

Forcing it on a program would just mean nobody would use that program when every other program does what that program does and more.

someone would propose a list, people would discuss it, then it would be set in stone

example: i say the limit is 50 points, and venusaur should cost 12, charizard 10 and blastoise 8, people discuss and we decide (or compromise) on a value

then we run a server with it
