>>15219839>It has more weaknesses than regular GyaradosThose only come into play after it's mega-evolved. The initial setup doesn't have to happen as a mega.
>It is not able to force as many switches as regular Gyarados. That's absolutely incorrect. With megados you can get the benefits of Intimidate, while massively increasing his decidedly weak defense stat. Any physical attacker not carrying Stone Edge will be forced to switch, along with anything weak to water.
This includes standard Salamence and Dragonite.
Weakened tanks and pokemon who can't hit Gyarados hard enough to KO it, such as Aegislash, Talonflame, Gliscor, Scizor, TTar, Blissey and Conkeldurr.
This list naturally includes choiced pokemon locked into a move that's iffy.
>It's attacks are weaker,So? It's initial attack is weaker, but if it can set up easier that doesn't matter. The amount of succesful setups vs. playing around the situation results in a net gain in attack.
Also, the LO recoil is by such a marginal degree.
> its typing is worseThis part is true.
>DD Gyarados relies on coming in and forcing switches to give itself free boosts. Mega Gyara can't do this as well. Absolutely not. Moxiedos doesn't magically get the benefits of intimidate and a higher defense stat. Being able to set a situation up so easily where you can easily withstand the next oncomming move, or avoid one altogether is the key to setting up. Hence why multiscale Dnite was so much better.
>Mega Gyara's typing only makes it lose a single weakness (Rock) and costs it very useful resistances (Fighting especially). It's a downgrade. You're not understanding.
A sweeper doesn't care as much about it's own type weaknesses, as it does things that can resist it. What stops sweepers are things that can easily withstand their onslaught. Things like Gliscor, Ferrothorn and Dragonite.
Weaknesses don't matter as much.
