Grew up with Ash. Moved around a lot as a kid. He was like my only "friend". Always thought he was cool for some reason, we both learned about pokemon together.

I was heart broken when his old voice actor left and his kind of dopey personality died. Now he's just a robot. Or at least that was just the B/W series.

Yeah, it was just for BW. He's not as comically dopey anymore (mostly because Misty and Brock aren't there to constantly make him look silly) but his new VA is an acquired taste. Once you can get past it, you can enjoy the Sinnoh and Kalos arcs of the anime, which in my opinion had some of the best writing the series has had to offer.

Even so, he's entertaining to watch. Sure his strategies suck, but I don't think anyone who continues to watch at this point expects him to win. It's more so watching for everything else. Like trying to punching a Mewtwo in the stomach.

Just watched both the dub and original japanese 2nd episodes of the X and Y series. Holy fuck does Ash sound annoying in the Japanese version. I know most japanese anime are better heard with their original voice actors, but goddamn Ash just sounds fucking annoying in the original japanese dub.

I miss Taylor, too. The way they replaced her and the other actors was hilariously unprofessional. If you watch interviews with Veronica Taylor, you can tell she really has an appreciation and understanding of the character that I think really bolstered her performance to something that the new actors simply can't reach. Ash just sounds angry now.
