First of all you need to get a good team. IVs aren't strictly necessary so we'll ignore them for now, but if you wanna know more you could google it.
Open up Super Training on your 3ds. Train your Pokes in this. This'll give them EVs or Effort Values. You almost always want to up their strenghts so if your Pokemon has high Speed and Special Attack it's a good idea to train them in that.
If you do that and get some good items (Leftovers, Life Orb, Choice Scarf/Specs/Band are the primary ones) and moves (Remember to use your Pokes moves and other moves that hits things those moves resists.)
This'll give you an acceptable team for casual play. If you want to get more into it and start wrecking people you should check out
