>>15230147Yeah R/S/E sucked. It's the only game where I refused to use the starter Pokemon because Mudkip was stupid looking, Treeco looked oddly designed, and I thought a chicken was a disappointment. The improved battling system was a nice improvement, but the region had a strange feel to it. It's hard to describe. I had a really hard time enjoying the gym leaders, the rival was almost non-existent, team Aqua/Magma were bad replacements, and Pokemon generally looked off in those games (less wild and more robotic or something). The island could of been so much better. I get it, the volcano, forest, and vast ocean sound awesome. I just think they were poorly implemented. people forget how boring the over-world was.
R/B/Y was cool because it felt like I was really in the wild when I played the game. and I loved how despite having a limited number of Pokemon I felt like there was always a stronger force out there. such as: prehistoric Pokemon, Mewtwo, Mew, or Missingno. I love the simplicity of the game. it still amazes me how much content this gameboy game had.
The second generation was also cool in my book because it felt like "gotta catch 'em all" on crack. I love this game because I love how long it is. There are twice as many battles, gym leaders, and downright awesome places to go. On top of that, once you beat the game you travel around like a boss in Kanto just because. Also the music gave the game a feeling of old, but in a good way. And my favourite Pokemon is Wobbuffet.
I also recall messing with the hex numbers in the first two generations and being amazed at the structure of the two games. In a lot of ways it got me into programming.
