You don't see how that souvenir looks like a tiki? GameFreak has a special fascination of Hawaii, a region there is no real surprise.
And how would a super weapon be a guardian of an entire region? Something that controls a volcano, if it IS Hawaii/tropical based, sure, that makes sense. But spooooky Hoopa (if Serebii's typing of Ghost/Psychic is to believed)? Can't see it.
