The point here is that they're a form of recreation and entertainment, and that to say something that is for recreation or entertainment is therefore immediately for children is ridiculous.
Adults are allowed to enjoy recreational activity as well, they don't need to devote every waking moment of their lives to being productive in society. And by extension, of course some entertainment, including some video games, is intended for an adult audience.
That's not to say adults can only play "adult games" and children can only play "childrens games", but merely that certain games are clearly intended to appeal or be most easily understood by certain demographics and age groups, some children, some adults.
