Do what Heartgold and Soulsilver, arguably the best remakes in video game history, did. Remake Emerald but change up the events and exclusives to make it closer to Ruby and Sapphire.

All I pretty much want is a bigger variety in wild Pokémon, aswell as making transfering easier.
R/S were by far the best games in the series, definitely my favorite. Emerald was okay.
I hope they don't to it like HG/SS, Gen2 was generally bad.

RSE are some of the fastest Pokemon games we've had (in terms of both animation/movement speed and story)

The way the region was designed meant that very little backtracking was necessary since you were able to use new shortcuts as you progressed through the game. The only real backtracking was travelling back to Slateport when they stole the submarine, but even that only takes a few seconds since you have Fly by then.

Exactly. Might as well have a bunch of mini-apps on it. That's more or less what X/Y has. Just give you a Poketch at the start of RSE2 that comes with Amie/ST/PSS built in.

I really doubt that we'll get remakes since RSE take place towards the start of the timeline whereas XY take place right at the end.

However, sequels are likely. Enough time has passed (in-game) since Emerald to allow Team Aqua/Magma to be reborn and Kyogre/Groudon to get pissed off again. This could also allow the landscape to change, so the ocean could have more places of interest and some of the towns (particularly Rustboro and Lilycove) could get bigger.

Although all I want is Fortree and diving in 3D.

RSE is generally considered to happen at the same time as FRLG. That's one of the loosest associations, however, and mostly based on the lack of a time machine required for trading a la GSC as well as other things I don't quite recall. DPPt happen begin right when the Lake of Rage events take place in HGSS, as evidenced by the TV report at the beginning and other things. This is three years after FRLG, as confirmed by in-game dialogue.
BW happens sometime after, due to the Rocket Grunt who speaks in broken English having a child, who is now capable of speaking fluently. That means anywhere from three years up. One of the E4 is also from the Battle Frontier, and has aged.
BW2 happen an indefinite amount of time afterwards. XY happens even after, due to references to Plasma.

When you come back from Rustboro, you can use the ledges to get back straight away. You can also use cut to explore more of Petalburg Woods.

You don't have to go from Slateport to Petalburg, ever. Once you hit Slateport, you just end up going straight to Fallabor.

And when you come out of Meteor Falls, you can go through Rusturf Tunnel and not have to go into Petalburg at all.

And when you beat Norman, you can use Surf to skip across from north of Oldale straight to north of Slateport without having to pass through Dewford or Slateport. You can then take the cycling route rather than going through the grass path again.

You need to go back to Petalburg once and that's to fight Norman. You can do this after the stuff at the volcano. There are four ways of getting back there by this point. You can go through Meteor Falls, Rusturf Tunnel, catch a ferry or go through Route 103. There was worse backtracking in Gen 1 (having to go from Vermilion back to Cerulean), Gen 2 (Cianwood to Ecruteak if you don't have a flyer. Mahogany to Ecruteak if you went the wrong direction) and Gen 4 (Literally everywhere).

Emerald was a huge step forward, but R/S are by far the worst games. Poor story, doubling the IVs made breeding a hellish experience, wingull and other shit pokes literally everywhere in the wild, the best you could find was a lv. 45 altaria in the rayquaza tower, you had to farm for literally hours to get the rarest pokemon.
I wouldn't mind a remake, but they should do some major overhaul. Like, doubling the pokemon you can find in the wild.
After playing X/Y, I can't force myself to play a game with a route where 9/10 encounters are spinda, with sandshrew, koffing and skarmory being the others.

Yes, back then. We are talking about the present now, however. Half the reason SS/HG was made was so that we can get old mon into the newer gens. The remakes and old legendaries coming back in new games was done in preparation for the PokeBank. GF doesn't need to do anymore remakes for the old pokemon anymore.

Maxie claims he wants to use Groundon to create more land so Hoenn can expand to benefit landmon and humans, when in reality he intends to create more land purely so he can sell and profit off it.

Archie claims he wants to use Kyogre to unpollute the oceans when in reality he intends to hold sea-side cities hostage with the threat of flooding

All of those, except for maybe Jinx (I'm guessing her mega was removed due to potential controversy), are Hoenn Pokemon. What's more, all of those are very iconic Hoenn Pokemon. Five of them are legendaries, two of them are the paired Pika-clones that represented double battles back in the RSE days, and one is a Hoenn starter.

I think the GF has in mind to change his way of making out the games. Probably now the "direct sequel" will no longer be someone like Crystal or Platinum, but two as the fifth generation. With all the internet stuff, I doubt that's even necessary.
Now I remember a lot of people arguing that RSE remakes will never happen because you can still get your Hoenn team from back then through two or three transfers. How that makes any sense still eludes me.

Not really. I personally prefer Johto to Hoehn concerning wild pokemons, but only R/S managed to have no monsters at higher levels.
The best I can recall in the wild were Hariyama and Altaria, and they still were low leveled, even the elite 4 was low leveled. This was actually addressed in Emerald, but leveling was still painful compared to all other games in the franchise. I remember myself using colosseum to level up faster.

However Nintendo stepped in, and Iwata asked GF to do something different for the 3rd version of the game, which resulted in the game being scrapped and BW2 being made.

This is why we never saw the God Stone being used in BW2, or we never saw the true original form of Kyurem and got 2 version exclusive forms instead. Also, various glitches in BW2 suggest a rushed development.

It's not a deep plot by any means, but it's a plot that works with the video game medium, compared to BW's plot which could be used in an anime or something just fine.

Unfortunately, I don't blame Gamefreak for changing this. People these days want plot points to be made bluntly obvious to them, and get pissy when that doesn't happen. A lot of people were bitching about AZ "coming out of nowhere" in XY...even though he's hinted several times throughout the game by NPCs. After Gen 2, Gamefreak stopped using exploration to tell the story and lore and just had it all spoonfed to you.

And no, I'm not some butthurt angry nostalgiafag, and on the whole I think the newer games are much better than the older ones, but this is one aspect where the newer games have dropped the ball.

And I never said it was a shit story, I said there isn't a story. R/G/B/Y were just standard, no story, RPGs where the only goal was to go from point A to B, and that's what makes the Pokemon formula great: The story takes a backseat to the exploration, battling, catching, etc., the story is just there as a supplement.

If Iwata stepped in, it would have had to been sometime during BW1's development, since the final product had several sequel hooks. And because the God Stone kept its name in the English localization, but if they were actually intending on using it, then it would have been called something else because there's no way that name would fly in an actual, American release.

Companies, especially one that deals with a multi-million, friendly family, franchise that is ingrained into pop culture are very conservative and play it safe. Yes, religious extremists aren't as relevant as they were back in the 90s, but that doesn't change the fact that they did complain, and they don't want to risk another controversy over a line of text.

As an example that pertains to the franchise, Uri Geller sued Gamefreak over Kadabra. The lawsuit got thrown out of court, but it obviously had an effect on the company, as they haven't released any new Kadabra merchandise in almost a decade. Gamefreak plays it safe with Pokemon, because they don't want to risk any sort of controversy that'll hurt the image of their only moneymaker.

I actually had a dream about R/S remakes where Groudon and Kyogre got new formes. Groudon's new forme had Sandstream and was Rock-type, and Kyogre's new forme had Snow Warning and was Ice-type. The titles were something like "Sand Ruby and Snow Sapphire" or something like that.

Also May was a scientist who created them and I was playing the game on a regular DS but those parts probably won't happen.

Seeing as Ash's design is damn close original Red's design, the original and remake have different hair styles as well.
