In the end it doesn't really matter, because they have the same stats. People insisted the female was better because it learnt Shadow Ball, but we've just concluded that the Male on can learn it via breeding.
We can't say anymore until we've tested which moves can be bred onto both genders, but with Prankster and double screens the male is shaping up to be more viable in battle.
