Maybe by Gamefreak's definition, but if they bother putting data like IVs that render most Pokemon useless and have people focus only on mons with superior genetics to create viable teams, then I don't care what GF has to say.

That's one way to do it.

I always ignored natures and ivs and evs and trained them like ash does. Hacking makes that all. It allows me to train them like real Pokemon not eugenics projects. Breeding the perfect mon is something those team rocket cock knockers would do.

The other way I did it was starting a new game and finding out my SID, and then making blatant hacks, like a gardevoir that knew ice beam, or a glaceon that knew flamethrower, basically just doing new game+, and overwriting my starter with the hacked pokemon, and going about the rest of my pokemon journey with my hacked mon.

This is what I do. Hack a perfect IV'd poke with the nature, egg moves and EVs I want, then go around the game doing shit and having it gain levels. So much better than going through the hassle of breeding.

I consider exp gain saving time, although I opt for rare candies, since theyre instant and dont add EV's.
In fact, ocne X and Y get hacked, I do plan on supplying myself with the maximum allowed number of rare candies, assuming Z doesnt dome out before then, along with the VSseeker and better ways to grind, outside of just E4 spamming.

Here's mine: When hacking becomes prevalent, trainer interaction that doesn't involve battling ceases. Everyone gets a gameshark or a distributor, no one needs Safari Dittos, no one needs cross-version pokemon, no one needs Shiny hunts.

Half this board's activity will be gone once hacking is a thing, and we'll just be scheduling battles and discussing the show. Once in a while, someone'll mention wanting to trade for a shiny oshawott or something and the first post will be someone giving him fifty of them with perfect IV's and a competitive moveset.

Then why play the actual Pokemon game at all? If you just care about battling and not the interaction, why not use Pokemon Showdown or something where everything but the battling is stripped out?

You avoid the tedium of breeding, walking, connecting, boxing/unboxing, waiting, and side-quests to just play your battles.

I like the trading. If you've ever been to an MtG tournament, once all the battles are over, people spend hours trading cards around, playing silly strategies and all sorts of fun. If everyone just walked in with a deck they printed online, they'd play their matches and go home. No point interacting with people, if you wanted new cards you could just print them.

If I programmed it, I'd store a list of the released Pokemon (up to a cap) and sometimes have them return (nicknames and all) in the wild or with random NPC's (and them delete them if you saw them like 3 times and just KO'd them)

I personally use Showdown as a way to determine team strategies before I build a team and yes, I do hack to get mons I want without investing the time. Battling is the core and the meta for what the game is now; trading and connectivity is some of the building blocks.

If I go to a tournament and get bodied by some awesome setup, I'd like to be able to talk with the guy after, see if he's got a slightly sub-par baby still available and we'll trade around a couple of pokes and come back next month with new teams, play eachother again and we'd discuss our new strategies and teams and how we'd learned from the last game and used the pokemon we traded with eachother.

If everyone hacked, I'd just lose, go home and Pokegen another team.

When I was kid, I did care only about that. Then I always wondered about the vitamins and why rare candies weren't so great. I wondered why my pokemon I had grinded so hard training weren't doing as well as I wanted.

Then more mechanics came in and I got interested in those. I started to see deeper things about the game.

In gen iv, i started doing the breeding process, and man did I hate it. It was so frustrating realizing that all this work I was doing was so unnecesary.

Then I saw the pokegts or whatever it was. I was so ecstatic. I could use all of my favorite pokemon who would be at their best potential without having to go through so much nonsense. I didn't want to make a Staraptor either with fire blast, no guard, etc. either. I just wanted my pokemon I knew I could use properly. I didn't like how I had to waste so many hours hoping I could get a pokemon that could keep up with others, or one that was really slow or weak compared to even the AI's pokemon.

I watch shows while I do it and I've already gotten 4 shinies. It might just be me, but I get a feeling of satisfaction when I get something I spent time to get.

I've used Pokegen in past gens and I didn't feel like the pokemon was mine at all, I just felt cheap as fuck.

There's a reason Game Freak made all these mechanics in the first place. If they wanted to include a "Instant-Perfect-Pokemon" button they would've.

In WoW, for example, there are people who spend years grinding and leveling their characters in order to be the best, but how annoying would it be if some new player somehow found a way to get everything you got in a couple of minutes?

So I could see how someone could get into breeding and logically take it too the extreme. Especially since a decent amount of pokemon only really shine when you go full eugenics on them.

When I spend literally 30-40 hours creating a perfect Pokemon, I've invested too much in that Pokemon to part with it at that point. I actually have perceived value in it, especially if I give it a meaningful name.

Hacking a Pokemon's stats just isn't the same, but I can see why some people don't want to spend 200 hours in game creating their perfect team.

I can understand why one would use pokegen or breed, but it isn't my thing. Gen 6 made competitive battle much more open to super-casul players like myself.

You claim an emotional attachment to that one pokemon that's finally perfect, but what about all the 'rejects'? The pokemon that weren't 'good enough' to make it on your team?

It's perfectly fine to be proud of breeding a pokemon with perfect IVs, but there shouldn't be any more emotional attachment to it.
