Sableye is just absolutely disgusting to deal with regardless of its stats because it has access to Recover.

Mega Banette is beastly because of its high Attack, sort of like Mega Mawile but it can't take a hit, yet it has more utility because of Prankster.

I like Mega Banette. He hits pretty hard and can take someone out with Destiny Bond of necessary.
I use him as a sort of get out of jail free card in battle.
Last time I felt a Xerneas was the only really threat my opponent had, so I took him out with Destiny Bond. He can stop pretty much any sweep.
Pretty sure Sableye can't get Destiny Bond, if he does then he's still probably better.

Sableye is better for prankster because it actually gets utility in prankster recover and almost no weaknesses.
Mega Gengar is a better mega evolution ghost because it's just pretty much borderline broken.

Mega Banette fills an entirely different role than either of those. It abuses all forms of priority, not just Prankster, to steal away KOs and such with that massive attack and access to both Shadow Sneak and Sucker Punch while being able to will-o-wisp/trick room support without suffering from trick room's disadvantages on it. It's like a combination of both

Too add to that, Mega Gengar's counter is easily Mega Banette since Gengar has no counter to it at all with no priority. It could be what prevents Mega Gengar from going to Ubers.

Yeah, no it isn't. The turn you mega evolve, speed/priority is based on the Pokemon before it mega evolved. So you don't get priority until the second turn.

On the prankster Sableye note, I'm currently trying to obtain one with a Bold nature. But it's getting so time consuming trying to catch one in friend safari so I'm going to turn to breeding.
Currently I have a male Sableye with Prankster and a Ditto with Bold nature. If these were to breed would it be possible to end up with a Prankster Sableye with Bold nature?

I have KO'd every single MegaGengar I've faced on Showdown. What's fun is doing it with a Klefki or a Ditto or something.

At the moment the best thing it can do is probably Protect+Disable but Gengar sort of does that better already. For everything else there's Sableye.

I'd love to use a gimmicky Cotton Guard set once it becomes available.

I'm trying to make an all ghost team at the moment, just to see if I can. I've got extremely limited knowledge of the competitive scene and before X and Y I hadn't played since D and P.

So here it goes. I was thinking of:

Frolass with Spikes and Taunt as the opener.

Sableye as the defense tank, with recover, Will-O-Wisp and Taunt.

Mega Gengar as Sp.Atk sweeper.

Possibly Jellicent as Sp.Def tank.

Now I'm missing a physical attacker and some more utility. Any suggestions? I'd really love to use Banette, and if anyone can suggest a viable role for him then I may use Mega Banette instead of Mega Gengar.

Yeah Mega Gengar has been hugely underwhelming for the amount of hype around it. It's fast and has high SpAtk but it's tissue paper, if you don't OHKO whatever your fighting you will die. Might as well just run the standard Sub/Disable on regular Gengar and save your mega slot for something else.

If you've predicted the switch and you've gone into something that doesn't mind being trapped in it's shadow tag then it's gg gengar. I use my scarfed heliolisk since it's immune to gengars STAB shadow ball and with scarf let's it outspeed and land a nice SE darkpulse
That's not to say m-gengar isn't godly, but it can be stopped
