Charizard X is more aesthetically pleasing in my opinion,charizard Y is better competitevely because it sets up it's own sun with a 159 sp.atk stat compared to charizard X's 130 attack stats.

Charizard Y because it has sp.atk on par with mewtwo compared to Charizard X that's on par with Salamence.Neither is worth the mega slot but Y is bound to be better in competitive.

X is currently the best non uber dragon*, while Y's only merit is brining 5 turns of the second worse weather condition.
*You could argue about Dragonite, but their roles are completely different anyways.

Visually X has strange wings, pointless shoulder horns, and the flames look terrible in game. Y looks like a more powerful, natural progression of Charizard, and the little wyvern wings are a nice touch, as a nod to his non-dragon typing.

most other megas have had the trend of exaggerating and enhancing certain features of the original mon, but still looking a lot like it; mega charizard X is radically different in color and has silly wings whereas Y looks like a properly exaggerated, powered-up charizard

also, Y enhances special attack, which the original charizard was meant to use and has drought for more stupidly good fire damage

I mean I guess it would make for a spectacular dragon if it didn't take up a MEGA slot and have to compete with other more overwhelming megas.Other than that it's a Salamence with fire stab and no moxie.

What other "overwhelming megas"?
CharX is the best sweeper out of all the megas.
Luke and Gengar are the only ones that you could argue are better, but their roles are completely different.

No other mega can sweep like CharX can, that's hardly a waste of mega evo slot.

However, if Charizard were to have only one Mega and I were to choose, I'd pick Y because suddenly changing color like that is kind of odd, even if I do really like the new colors.

x, y has excellent special attack and a sleek ass design, but having a dragon type is much more advantageous, I wasn't a big fan of the design at first, but it has grown on me

Ok, now you have no idea what you are talking about.
Higher attacking stats mean nothing when you lose Life orb, CharX has though claws as a pseudo life orb giving it more effective attack than most megas.
Besides Azumarill and Carbink, no fairy can survive a +1 Flare Bltiz (Azumarill dies to thunderpunch and no one cares about Carbink), CharX is also neutral to fairy and ice and resists BP, that's what makes CharX so much better than the other dragons as a sweeper.
