These ev spreads aren't just to counter threats, they're to do stuff like activate sitrus berry if hit by hitmontop fighting gem CC, as well as beat X, provide utility Y and resist Z. These teams wouldn't work otherwise, unless you're seriously suggesting a team of 5 tailored threats and 1 non tailored is beating literally anything.

It's entirely reasonable to ask why people aren't playing the harder (yes it is, it's objectively computationally harder and you get no leniency) metagame which is officially supported and you can win prizes in (you know, including free weeks holidays) over the single game. Especially when people keep complaining about stealth rocks, speed creep and useless abilities, none of which are relevant in VGC.
