sounds far weirder than:
'has yet to be understood at all'
'isn't fully understood just yet'
'yet' in this case is easily read with its use as a conjunction in mind rather than a descriptor of the temporal state of the subject.
It's kind of like how 'the awards were given to you, me and alex' sounds just as good as (if not better than) 'the awards were given to alex, you and me' despite being grammatically incorrect.
