So you want me to make an encyclopedia for you? Then why when I scan the Pokemon is there already a detailed description prewritten?

Is it just me, or is this a major hole in the Pokemon franchise?

My headcanon is that the pages aren't pre-written, the main character is the one who writes it.

I always assumed that either the character or the pokedex recorded the fine details. However it came pre-installed with "supposed" pokemon that have been previously sighted.

I came to the realisation that, unlike the anime implies, the Pokedex isn't a comprehensive encyclopaedia of all known Pokemon species. It's simply a research tool that the player uses to log all their discoveries.
I assume professors hand these out to multiple people and later collate the data they get from field researchers - I guess the aides also have Pokedexes of their own.

Maybe yours comes re-wiped because you're a fucking 10 year-old and the professor wants you to know the joy of discovery.

OP, don't use the Anime as your basis, that's just silly.
In the games, you are the one who writes each dex entry. Or at least that's what my brain tells me. And I always listen to my brain.

I figured rather than the player character writing the entries, it was done electronically. That's why before the pokemon is captured, you only know what it looks like. Once the pokemon is in a pokeball, it can be examined in detail.

Wrong. The character doesn't write the entries, the pokedex does it itself.
The technology in pokemon is so high it's no different from magic

Wrong. The technology is basic. Apricorns being able to magically capture a Pokemon and Pokemon shooting endless water and fire and shit is just the Pokemon universe being subject to different laws of physics than our universe is. The technology isn't magic.
The person with the Pokedex is the person who writes the entries.

He's implying the tech is relatively basic compared to ours considering how the physics work in the Pokemon universe. Energy-matter data conversion and transference is probably trivial science there.

That would be plausible if the information didn't sound like it was written by a, surprise surprise, 10 year old.

It's stated to "automatically" record data in the games so stupid players first playing the game wouldn't think they'd have to write information themselves.
