I think I may have figured out what Tipping actually does.

To anyone that tips a lot answer me this: Do you notice a lot more Critical Captures when capturing Pokemon?

A friend of mine also noted that he's getting a lot more, and I'm getting ones with what seems like almost every 10 battles or so.

So, maybe it just increases your chance of getting critical captures? Not really noticing a change in shinies personally so...
