It doesn't have "wide coverage", it has a Fire STAB to back up the fact that Bug is shit. I greatly respect the pokemon and what it can do, but I do not have to like it, and I do not. Volcarona is also a lot more one-dimensional than Scizor is. I prefer Forretress anyway.

Bug is a shit attack typing. The absolute only reason it is relevant offensively is because of how ubiquitous U-Turn is. Its utility is prized and would be with literally any other typing. And I know the fucking thing gets Hurricane, that's nice and all but that doesn't make Volcarona a multifaceted pokemon. It is a setup sweeper, it literally is incapable of anything else. Is that bad? It isn't, because Volcarona is good at what it does. Is it a pokemon I want to use or find appealing? It is not.

He's a scorpion and in the bug breeding group. He could have been the hero who redeemed Bug/Ground and joined the ranks of flying bugs that are neither part Flying nor have Levitate.

STAB U-Turn and a niche that sets it apart from the other Ground/Dragons. Right now it's just a worse version of Garchomp.

Being a bug wouldn't give it a niche, it'd make it worse. Flygon's perk is being a scout that can actually shrug off Rocks while still being immune to spikes. It's one of the most hazard resistant pokemon in the game. However its flawed due to its inferior stats and being a bug won't suddenly change that. Its typing and ability gives it more switch-in opportunities and a STAB U-Turn is not enough to trade off the assets it currently has.
