Buy Writs from the maid at the entrance.

The Red Writ will raise all the levels of trainers by 10.
The Silver Writ will drastically improve the rate at which new trainers appear, which means the weaker trainers will be flushed out quicker.
The Gold Writ increases the money you make.

You can have all three going at the same time.

The Silver and Gold Writs stack, but can't be used with a regular Writ of Invitation.
The various Writs of Challenge also don't stack, so just go with the highest one available (Red/Black).

I'm a Grand Duke and I still get the shitty waste-of-space Barons and Earls. It's just that now I occasionally get Diantha too. The occasional Duchess with a team full of Audino's is pretty nice too, if only for leveling.

Basically, if you want a challenge, you have to use writs, but keep in mind that they only last until midnight of the day that you use them, so it's best that you do as early as possible.
