Best Wishes and XY feel so different in terms of Ash:

Best Wishes Ash:
>Stated to be 10.
>Forgets how to catch Pokemon
>Get's beat by a rookie.
>Get's called a little kid constantly by main girl.
>Bums around like an idiot.
>TR are acting vastly different.

XY Ash:
>No age stated
>Fights evenly with the 5th Gym Leader despite no badges
>Said 5th gym leader wants to join HIM to get stronger, not the other way around.
>Comes up with very smart plan and location to catch Fletchling.
>Main Girl wants his cock
>Everyone is inspired by him.
>TR retain their characterization.

What the hell happened? Did the writers really try and make Best Wishes mimic Kanto for no apparent reason, then got their sense back for XY?

Whatever the case, I think it goes to show using characterizations of very old, outdated series (Kanto/Johto) does NOT work at this point in Ash's story.
