I've actually never put much thought into previous gens which pokeballs I used to catch pokemon. I just used whatever was at my level, eventually only using ultraballs and such. This gen though I started using quickballs for that instacatch, but I love the sleek design of the premier ball. I've used that to catch the legendaries, and used it for the breeded pokemon in my team.

Because Surskit is awesome.

In the case of Ditto, the father's Pokeball is passed down instead.

So, I have a Noibat in a Duskball and a Japanese Ditto I received through trading that's in an Ultra Ball. When I breed, the child is in a regular Pokeball. What gives? What am I doing wrong here?

Just go catch a girl Noibat from a safari with a dusk ball and from then on out only use females with Ditto's. You should be taking your ditto out at around 3 IV's anyway and only putting one back in for everstone and then rotating it out once you get sufficient breeding stock for higher iv's.

In that picture there, the Event Ball* is pretty rad. But in the game, it doesn't have that neato black part cut into the sides, so in the game it's just a normal sphere. So in-game, my favourite is the Premier Ball.

It's so clean looking, and that tinge of red ads a bit of flare to it to keep it from being boring.
Not to mention it adds a bit more of a challenge to catching Pokemon, which I really enjoy.
*I'm talking about the all red one on the bottom row next to the Dusk Ball. I totally forgot what it's called, so I'm just going to call it the Event Ball. Which might actually be true, whatever.

You can't catch pokemon in it without hacking, at which point whatever you catch in it reveals you as a hacker.
The rainbow effect is cool though.

... of course, if anyone got either of the last 2 Worlds distributions, female pokemon catchable in a Cherish ball...

I know they exist in the code.

If they're retained, that means that hopefully you can at least see Apricorn balls in XY on pokemon transferred from HGSS
