Natures are pretty serious. In battle you've really got to have a hardy Pokemon if you want to cut it in the quirky competitive battling scene. You might feel a little bashful if you don't. Ultimately you want to have docile Pokemon that can really make the grade, but I'd say that if you're playing through the game, neutral natures are okay.
