Wallace wasn't as bad. Sure he was bad, but it was an interesting and unprecedented choice. Plus I found him to be actually difficult for the in-game run.

Now, Iris was fucking terrible. I don't know if Diantha was as bad as her, but she probably is, considering how Iris had at least been a gym leader and an "influential" character in the prequels, while Diantha showed up once and had zero characterization or story investment before she just randomly turned up at the end. Honestly if I had been playing without having browsed /vp/, when she showed up, I would not have recognized her.

For me a large part of it had to to with the fact that I had already fought him in R/S, and he was also replaced with not-wallace who was pretty much the same. And Steven is better.

You have to take level curves into account. Diantha is so easy because almost everyone will be overleveled by the time they get to her. There's a level gap between most champions so they're more challenging.

Cynthia was the most challenging champion. Diverse team, with every Pokemon being good, all of them having 31 IVs and being fully EV'd. It's the only champion I've ever had trouble with in years.

Okay, I had trouble with Wallace, but that's because I didn't initially use an electric-type. I had to crack down and raise a Pikachu to take him down, since it was the only good electric-type RSE had.

I didn't like Manectric's limited movepool + sprite so I didn't use him. By the time I needed an electric-type, I decided to go with Pikachu since it could do more damage with Light Ball-boosted Volt Tackle. One-shotted like half his team. I'm also a bit of a Pikachu fanboy.

I had slips of paper that gave a description of Gen I Pokemon and Gen VI Pokemon: they were the starter Pokemon for each gen (I excluded Pikachu as being a starter as that might have seriously led to extraneous variables in my data).

It played on nostalgia, because I would be under the assumption that some people would need their memory jogged a bit. The slips began with something involving remembering the Pokemon pictured, so there was some framing (it's a psychology course).

Overall, the goal was to see where people leaned in the analysis of Pokemon from old (Gen I) and new (Gen VI). The results were that the average score of those voting on the Gen I slips scored 7.5 out of 10, which read as "good" on the slips. However, Gen VI had an average of 4.3/ 10, which read as "below average."

Overall, the histograms for Gen I looked frightening compared to the ones for Gen VI.

This is my favorite slip I received back from a random participant.

Steven really well matches uo with those two pokemons.
But Diantha looks like having them is just lack of 6gen pokemons.

while I didn't much care for Diantha as a champion because she didn't really have much development as such, she certainly did have an awesome theme during her battle. Probably my favorite champion theme thus far.
