Safaris seem to have a higher rate than normal wild encounters.

However, that being said, of my 9 shiny Pokemon, only 2 come from Safaris, 2 from fishing (both Poliwhirls) and the rest from random wild encounters.

Higher rate doesn't make up for ones bad luck. I cannot hatch shinys after several boxes full, so I give up and just go hunting.

I spent several hours in the Zubat's Roost (connecting cave) horde hunting before I got my shiny one, but I've spent days trying to get a mareep and have only failed.

Before gen VI, I've gotten exactly one shiny that wasn't scripted (see: the shiny gyarados in the Lake of Rage) or a giveaway; in my nuzlocke of Y, I got a shiny panpour and barboach and I've chain fished three shiny claunchers.

I'd say they've made it easier to get them, but I don't think they've reduced the odds of doing so outside of chaining/MM breeding.

I have only ever seen two shinies before this gen, and neither of them were accidental (soft-resetting for Rayquaza, breeding for an Eevee). This gen, in 93 hours, I've seen 4 shinies just by pure chance in battling, not counting the three I've found chain-fishing. I don't even battle wild Pokemon that much outside of EV training.

I had never gotten a shiny before, in my 15 years of pokemon. I hatched a shiny Chespin when I wasn't trying for one at around 15 eggs.
Yesterday I got a shiny Teddiursa and today I caught a shiny Meditite. Pic related.

back when I was a kid playing gold I got a shiny larvitar

black I got a shiny zebstrika
this gen I've gotten a shiny larvesta and a shiny krabby this morning

I've never actually tried to get shinies, never cared for them

Wasn't making a fuss about the coloration, just that they're not all really unique colors when they're shiny.

Fucking Poliwhirls are just a slightly lighter blue, you'd almost not know the differences if they didn't sparkle.

Just got this glorious girl in a safari a few minutes ago. Her pink Mega is reason for the name. Inspired by a fellow shiny hunter. Felt great. This is my third shiny. First Hawlucha which was random, then Charmander in MM, now Gabite girl. This game has put me through a bit of torture with the charmander breeding (60 boxes) but it's been good to me

I've got a Shiny Clawncher(From Egg before fishing ruined it's rareness), Shiny Mawile (Traded a Shiny Wingull for it.), Shiny Aipom(Friend Safari) and a shiny Weedle(Egg hatch).
I've had pretty good luck this gen, but my rate of encountering Pokes is much higher now as I'm breeding and Dex completing.
